Platform to Enable Shared Scientific Computing and Research Assets (PESSCARA)

Learn how TACTIC DAM and workflow engine is used as a Content Management System by Mayo Clinic for sharing of data, metadata, algorithms, and research in medical imaging environments at the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine seminar.

This was published at SIIM ( Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine ), the leading healthcare professional organization for those interested in the current and future use of informatics in medical imaging. The society's mission is to advance medical imaging informatics across the enterprise through education, research, and innovation in a multi-disciplinary community.

The paper describes the importance of content management in medical imaging, in particular the use of Digital Asset Management and Workflow combination to address all the requirements of modern image based studies.

"PESSCARA consists of a medical imaging research management and associated information database (MIRMAID), which combines the advantages of a system to store medical images and associated information, as well as an environment for programmatic development based on IPython notebooks. MIRMAID is characterized by a highly configurable workflow, with a single interface that can store, manage, and retrieve image-based research studies capable of handling the requirement of data auditing and project management. "

TACTIC was chosen as the content management system which provided a layer between what was the asset library which is termed as the ‘gold’ archive and their algorithms which made it easy for investigators to select the right exams/images.
